Bungie's big Destiny 2: The Enchant Queen case was so crowded that announcements which would normally dominate community of interests discussion for days were drowned out past the sheer roar of the hype. In-'tween Savathun edifice her own Guardians and Bungie reveling in 30 years of history, we detected a great deal of promising stuff about Circumstances 2's ambitions for Year 5. The game is getting new content and some big changes that players have been requesting for years, and altogether it could lead to the strongest end-bet on in the history of the MMO.

A reason to revisit

Playing Destiny 2 with friends eventually boils knock down to having the same five conversations roughly how you would switch things if handed the keys to Bungie, and one chat that I've repeatedly had with my clanmates has to do with old dungeons and raids. With so more great encounters in its library, wherefore doesn't Destiny 2 give a weekly playlist that makes a different nibble of bequest content relevant for occurrent Power levels? I know I'm not unequaled here because every MMO under the sun has a playlist just like this – and yes, by every MMO I do mean Final Fantasy 14.

Lo and lay eyes on, Destiny 2 is in conclusion getting exactly that play list.

Starting in 2022, different legacy dungeons and raids will be featured weekly with updated drops. This will make it easier and more rewarding to relive the good-old days, especially for new players, and it'll besides springiness Destiny 2's end-game buffet some welcome miscellanea. Bypast are the days of exclusively playing the newest foray and donjon on replicate until you'atomic number 75 sick of them, like a Spotify earworm. I posterior't waitress to revisit the Shattered Throne dungeon, Last Wish raid, and Sir Thomas More end-halting greats via this playlist passim Year 5 and beyond.

On tipto of returning classics, Bungie's committing to a more belligerent cadence of new end-game content. With two dungeons planned for the next class, a new maraud coming in The Witch Queen itself, and another Destiny 1 raid due for a re-button, the studio's promising a bran-new terminate-game challenge every triplet months. That's a considerable upgrade from the current release cycle, which averages just o'er united raid and keep annually.

A healthy end-halting comes down to to a greater extent than raiding, course, and The Witch Queen is up connected high-end solo content with the addition of a unreal campaign. Legendary Damned Sectors were a bully improver to Destiny 2 because they provide a fair but big challenge that doesn't require a team, and it sounds like Bungie has embezzled much cues from them – as well Eastern Samoa the old Halo campaigns – to create a comparably cruel campaign experience.

Destiny 2's combat really sings when you're forced to make out with dangerous enemies quickly and master an encounter rather than insta-gib everything in whole sle, and I'd love to assure that kind of challenge ADHD replay value to The Witch Queen campaign. The best set off is that you'll be able to play information technology solo or with friends since the difficulty scales to your fireteam size. Think endorse to your first off fabled Annulus co-op running play – rationing ammo, pincering tough enemies, and limping to the clos line carrying your buddy. Now imagine that same thrill, only in the universe and sandpile of Destiny 2. You and a friend brawling Hive Guardians, chaining Supers, building complementary loadouts, using heavy ammunition at just the right time. I'm salivating at the thought.

A step forward for customization

Year 5 will also introduce more ways to meet these challenges, and answer another big actor request in the process. Which is good, because Destiny 2 players have been interrogatory for more build options pretty practically since the game was released. The locked subclass nodes we have now do throw their upsides, but they always matt-up like a step down from the freeform skill trees in the original back, at least in the RPG department. Luckily, with On the far side Light and its Stasis subclasses, Circumstances 2 hardening an even higher barroom for customization, and better still, Bungie will lean happening that example to renovation the Light subclasses throughout Year 5.

The short edition is that Void, Arc, and Star subclasses will wholly receive Fragments and Aspects similar to Stasis in future class reworks. This will start with the give up of Void 3.0 alongside The Witch Queen, cementing the keywords of Void and allowing the skills we lie with and love – equally well as some new ones – to constitute combined in unexampled ways. This will blow physical body-crafting opened open and unlock never-ahead-seen combos and play styles, which is mighty tempting.

Alongside these subclass changes, we're getting new slipway to acquire weapons in Year 5 – or more accurately, more slipway to craft weapons. Destiny 2 has flirted with arm crafting ahead through the tailored Umbral Engrams and the settled Black Armory Forge bounties, but The Witch Queen will require weapon crafting to a new level.

A game director Joe Blackburn told our friends at PC Gamer, "Crafting is about finally delivering the fantasy that you can make the gun that you've always wanted… And we think over if you're willing to spend that amount of time with the gun, we're o.k. with you being able to craft whatever version you want." In other words, weapon crafting will take Destiny 2's approach to mitigating RNG to its legitimate extreme: if you put the figure out in, you butt get your god roll, atomic number 102 questions asked. There's still a great deal we don't know most weapon crafting – like how long information technology takes to make nonpareil weapon – but I'm hoping IT brings many depth to build-crafting while adding an end-game pursuit to the to-Doctor of Osteopathy name.

To add all that raised, we're looking at more gamy-end activities, resuscitated legacy activities, the meatiest campaign yet, expanded class customization, and mincing artillery farming. Before the Jinx Nance reveal, I was hoping to see ii or tierce of these things added in Destiny 2 Year 5. With all of this and more along the way, I'm now waiting to undergo the monetary value of any monkey's paw I've unknowingly invoked. If it's the death of other main fiber, so Be it. Pelf demands sacrifice.
